Accident at Palghar Railway Station: Two Dead and One Injured After Being Hit by Jaipur Express While Crossing Closed Gate in Darkness

Two young men tragically lost their lives in an accident while crossing a closed railway gate in the darkness north of Palghar railway station. One of their colleagues survived the incident but sustained injuries.

The three young men from Motiyari district in Bihar, who work at a welding and other jobs at the Beldi Road company in Boisar East, had come to Palghar city to buy household items during their holiday. While crossing the closed gate to head east, two of them stopped on the tracks between two rails when a suburban train approached. Just then, the Jaipur Express, coming from the opposite direction, collided with them, leading to the tragic deaths of both.

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM, as reported by former Palghar municipal councilor Lakshmidevi Hajari. One of the three young men had moved aside to relieve himself, which led to his injury in the accident. Railway officials have reached the scene, and the process of identifying the deceased is underway. Despite the closure of the Palghar railway gate for several decades, hundreds of citizens are still forced to cross the tracks due to the lack of an alternative route, making it necessary to risk crossing the railway gate for traveling between east and west.

Names of the Deceased:

  • Sonuram Andaje (35)
  • Monu Kumar (19)

Injured:

  • Anup Pandit (20)
