Palghar Tragedy: 3-Year-Old Girl Falls to Death from 12th Floor in Naigaon, Sparks Safety Concerns in High-Rise Societies

Naigaon | July 23 : A heart-wrenching tragedy struck Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Tuesday evening, as a 3-year-old girl, Anvika Prajapati, fell from the 12th-floor balcony of a high-rise apartment in Navkar Phase One Society, Naigaon, leading to her untimely death.
Anvika, a resident of Room 1201 in B-1 Wing, had gone to visit her relatives staying in A-3 Wing, Room 1202, located on the same floor. The tragic incident occurred at around 8 p.m., while she was playing in the balcony area.
According to preliminary reports, Anvika climbed onto a slipper stand placed in the balcony and lost her balance, falling straight down from the 12th floor. The balcony reportedly had no protective grill, a crucial safety lapse that contributed to the fatal fall.
She was immediately rushed to Sir D.M. Petit Hospital in Vasai, but doctors declared her brought dead. The sudden loss has plunged the entire society into mourning, and residents are reeling from the shock of the incident.
Following the tragedy, residents of the society voiced serious concerns over the lack of basic safety features in several of the towers. Many balconies in the 14-storey complex are allegedly without grills or child-proofing provisions. Residents believe that had proper safety measures been in place, the accident could have been averted.“This is a painful reminder of the importance of childproofing homes, especially in high-rise buildings. One moment of oversight led to a lifetime of grief,” said a neighbour, who witnessed the aftermath.
The incident has triggered widespread anger and concern among residents, reigniting debates around the urgent need for mandatory child safety regulations in high-rise residential buildings.
The Naigaon Police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are continuing their investigation. Authorities are expected to question society officials and possibly builders regarding adherence to safety norms.
As the Prajapati family mourns the irreparable loss of their child, the tragedy stands as a stark reminder of how minor oversights in safety can have devastating consequences, especially in urban high-rise living.
