English News: BMC Launches Online Permission Process for Public Ganesh Festival Mandaps

Mumbai : Following the Maharashtra Government’s declaration of Ganeshotsav as a State Festival, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a key step by launching an online permission process for public Ganesh mandaps. This initiative came into action after RTI activist Anil Galgali pushed for a simplified system.
On July 4, 2025, Galgali had written to Deputy Commissioner Prashant Sapkale, requesting the initiation of a single-window online system to streamline the mandap permission process. The aim was to allow Ganesh mandals to obtain timely approvals and begin preparations without delay.
Taking immediate note, Deputy Commissioner Sapkale has now implemented the computerized system, enabling mandals across Mumbai and suburbs to apply online for various permissions such as mandap setup, idol installation, and decorations.
Anil Galgali stated, “Thousands of public Ganesh mandals celebrate the festival in Mumbai every year. However, the existing permission process often causes delays and confusion. This online system will make the process more efficient, transparent, and hassle-free.”
With this joint effort from the state government and the BMC, the upcoming Ganeshotsav is expected to be more well-organized, secure, and smooth, bringing relief to organizers and citizens alike
