Another Gang Rape in Nalasopara: Women’s Safety in Question; Fourth Incident in a Month

Vasai-Virar: Women’s safety in the Vasai-Virar region has become a grave concern as the crime rate continues to escalate. The recent incident of gang rape involving a 32-year-old woman in the Santosh Bhuwan area has once again raised serious questions about the law and order situation in the region. This is the fourth gang rape incident in the area within the past month. On the night of September 10, around 9:30 PM, the 32-year-old woman had gone out to call her son. While passing through a narrow lane in the chawl, an individual approached from behind, grabbed her hair, and covered her mouth. He then dragged her to his friend’s room, where he threatened her with a knife. Following this, both he and his accomplice took turns assaulting her. The attackers later threatened to kill her if she reported the crime to anyone.Gathering courage, the woman reported the incident to the Tulinj Police Station on Saturday. A case has been registered against the accused, and an investigation is underway. However, this incident highlights significant gaps in the existing police security measures.This case is indicative of the growing threats to women in the Vasai-Virar region. With this being the fourth gang rape in a month, an atmosphere of fear has settled among the female population. Serious questions are being raised about the effectiveness of the police force and why criminals seem emboldened to commit such heinous acts without fear of repercussions.
