Elevator Tragedy in Santacruz: Technician Dies During Lift Maintenance

Mumbai, Santacruz East: In a devastating incident, a 25-year-old elevator technician lost his life while carrying out maintenance work at the Fortune Heights building in the Vakola area of Santacruz East on Tuesday evening.

The technician, Ranjit Nirahu Gaud, employed by Sunrise Elevator Company, became trapped between the flooring slab and the lift car on the first floor of the 13-story building.

Rescue efforts by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), police, and the elevator company’s team involved manually operating the lift to free the victim. Despite being rushed to V. N. Desai Hospital, Gaud was declared dead at 8:24 PM by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Taufik Ansari.

The tragic accident, reported to the MFB at 5 PM, has raised concerns about safety measures during elevator maintenance.
