Google to Establish Safety Engineering Centre in Hyderabad

Google has selected Hyderabad to set up its first Safety Engineering Centre (GSEC) in the APAC region, making it the fifth such facility globally, alongside locations in Dublin, Munich, Malaga, and Tokyo. This move will position Hyderabad as a global hub for cybersecurity and safety engineering.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu, secured the partnership after meeting with Google’s global team, led by CIO Royal Hansen. The GSEC will focus on AI-driven security solutions, online safety products for India, and collaboration with cybersecurity experts. It will also create thousands of job opportunities and strengthen India’s digital security capabilities.

Hyderabad, already home to Google’s largest global employee base outside its headquarters, continues to grow as a tech hub, with Google also building its largest office outside the U.S. The GSEC is expected to support Telangana’s broader digital initiatives, including the T-Fiber project to connect rural homes securely.

Google is also exploring additional projects in the city, such as a Cloud Centre of Excellence and an Intelligent Traffic Management System powered by AI and Google Maps, further reinforcing Hyderabad’s role as a global technology leader.
