Heavy Rains Forecast Across Maharashtra, Orange Alert Issued for Several Districts

Mumbai, June 24, 2025 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai and several districts across Maharashtra, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall expected today. The alert comes as monsoon activity intensifies across the state, bringing much-needed relief and a dip in pollution levels.

The districts under Orange Alert include Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in the Konkan region, as well as Buldhana, Akola, Yavatmal, Amravati, Washim, Chandrapur, Wardha, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli in the Amravati and Nagpur divisions. These regions are expected to receive significant rainfall, prompting authorities to remain on high alert for possible flooding or disruptions.

Meanwhile, areas falling under the Pune and Nashik regions have been issued a Yellow Alert, indicating the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day. The IMD has advised residents to exercise caution, especially in low-lying and flood-prone zones.

Regions outside the alert zones remain under Green Alert, suggesting normal conditions with no significant weather threats expected today.

In a positive development, air quality across Mumbai has improved significantly. According to the Sameer app maintained by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) today stands at 52, categorized as ‘Moderate’. This improvement is attributed to the onset of pre-monsoon showers in May, which helped wash away pollutants and reduce dust levels.

Environmental experts have welcomed the improvement in air quality, noting that continued rainfall is likely to keep pollution levels in check through the monsoon season.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay updated with local weather bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel in areas experiencing heavy rainfall. Fishermen along the Konkan coast have also been advised against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions.

As Maharashtra braces for intense monsoon showers, emergency services and local bodies have been placed on standby to ensure quick response to any weather-related incidents.
