Kandivali Horror: Security Guard Arrested After Assault Drives Community Dog to Jump From 15th Floor
CCTV footage reveals brutal assault that led to dog’s tragic death; FIR filed, activist demands stricter animal cruelty enforcement and training for security staff

Mumbai, June 27: In a deeply disturbing incident that has shocked residents and animal lovers alike, a security guard at a high-rise in Kandivali West was arrested after CCTV footage revealed he assaulted a community dog, forcing it to jump to its death from the 15th floor.
The dog, named Princy, was a well-known and loved community pet residing at Kalpavriksha building in Vasant Complex. Initially, residents believed the dog’s death was a tragic accident, assuming it had accidentally fallen from one of the higher floors. A resident even took the dog’s body to a nearby animal hospital and performed its last rites.
However, the truth came to light after CCTV footage showed the horrific sequence of events. According to the footage, the building’s security guard, Mahavir Verma, employed with Shivam Protection Force, was seen chasing and brutally beating the dog with a stick. Princy, initially resting on the 17th floor, ran to the 15th floor in fear, where she was again assaulted. Unable to escape, she jumped out of a window, resulting in her death.
Following the revelation, animal activist and city president of People For Animals (PFA), Vijay Rangare, helped the complainant, resident Anjana Lakshapati, file a First Information Report (FIR) at Charkop Police Station. A video circulating on social media also shows Rangare and an associate confronting and slapping the accused guard before police took him into custody.
Rangare, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said, “Forcing an innocent dog to jump from the 17th floor is not just cruelty—it’s inhuman. The police must take the strictest possible action. Moreover, security agencies across Mumbai and Maharashtra must ensure that their staff are trained in animal welfare and legal responsibilities. This kind of brutality should never be repeated.”
The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and IPC Section 429 (mischief by killing or maiming animals), among others.
Residents of the society are demanding justice for Princy and stricter guidelines for housing societies and private security firms regarding the treatment of community animals.
