Massive Fire Erupts at Kandivali High-Rise, No Casualties Reported

Mumbai, May 22 : Panic gripped residents of Kandivali East on Thursday morning after a fire broke out at a residential high-rise in the Sarova Complex, located in Thakur Village. The blaze, which is believed to have been triggered by electrical sparking, was quickly brought under control thanks to the prompt response of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, and Adani Electricity technicians.
According to fire department officials, the fire was successfully contained with no casualties reported. All residents were safely evacuated, and preliminary assessments suggest that there has been no major structural damage to the building.
Personnel from the Samta Nagar Police Station and multiple fire engines arrived at the scene within minutes. “The situation was swiftly managed, and we will now conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire,” said a senior fire official.
This marks the second fire incident in Kandivali this month, raising concerns over electrical safety and infrastructure compliance in both residential and commercial areas.
On May 10, a significant fire broke out at the Bonanza Industrial Estate in Kandivali West. The blaze, which started around 7:00 a.m. on the first floor of a ground-plus-two-storey commercial building on Ashok Chakravarti Road, produced thick smoke that spread throughout the structure.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade deployed an extensive response team including six fire engines, two fire tenders, six jumbo water tankers, two additional tankers, a breathing apparatus van, and two quick response vehicles. The fire, initially categorized as Level-I, was escalated to Level-II by 7:33 a.m. It was eventually brought under full control by 3:15 p.m. the same day. Fortunately, the fire occurred before business hours and no injuries were reported.
Investigators believe the industrial fire may also have been linked to electrical components, though a detailed probe is ongoing.
City officials have urged both residential societies and industrial units to conduct regular maintenance of electrical systems and adhere to fire safety protocols, especially as the city braces for the monsoon season.
