NMMC Steps Up COVID-19 Preparedness Despite Zero Active Cases in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, May 23: In a proactive move to bolster public health safety, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has initiated precautionary measures despite no active COVID-19 cases being reported in the city. The civic body, under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, has instructed hospitals to reserve beds and has reactivated surveillance mechanisms to ensure early detection and response in case of any resurgence.

Given the emergence of COVID-19 cases in other parts of Maharashtra, the NMMC has adopted a vigilant stance. Public hospitals in Vashi, Nerul, and Airoli have each set aside five beds for potential COVID patients. Additionally, the Maasaheb Meenatai Thackeray Hospital in Nerul now hosts a fully operational COVID testing laboratory.

“Our priority is to remain prepared while avoiding public panic,” said Dr. Shinde, emphasizing the need for citizen cooperation. He reassured the public that all necessary arrangements are in place and that any developments will be promptly addressed in line with state and central government directives.

Health teams have been mobilized across urban primary health centers and municipal hospitals to provide treatment for individuals exhibiting influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI). Private practitioners in the city have also been instructed to remain alert and report any suspected cases to the NMMC immediately.

In a bid to promote respiratory hygiene, the civic body has issued comprehensive public health guidelines. These include covering one’s mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing, frequent handwashing, maintaining hydration, consuming nutritious food, and ensuring proper indoor ventilation. Citizens are also advised to avoid close contact with sick individuals, refrain from shaking hands, and not to reuse tissues or self-medicate.

“Community awareness and responsible behavior are our strongest defenses,” said a senior health officer from the NMMC. “We urge residents to remain calm, follow hygiene practices, and seek prompt medical attention for flu-like symptoms.”

Dr. Shinde further appealed to the public not to spread or fall for misinformation and to rely solely on official updates.

With these measures in place, Navi Mumbai continues to stand resilient and prepared in the face of potential health challenges.
