Ram Gopal Varma Seeks More Time in Probe Over Offensive Posts on Andhra CM

Hyderabad:Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has requested additional time to appear before the Andhra Pradesh police for an investigation into allegedly offensive social media posts targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and their families.

The case, registered on November 11 in Prakasam district, accuses the director of posting morphed images that reportedly undermine the leaders’ public standing. Following a complaint by Maddipadu resident Ramalingam, police booked Varma under multiple sections of the law.

A police team personally served a notice to Varma at his Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad, summoning him for a November 19 appearance. However, the director, citing prior commitments to a film shoot, sent a written request through his lawyer for a 4-5 day extension.

Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar confirmed the request and stated it would be assessed for authenticity. He added, "If the request is false and meant to evade the investigation, we will send a team after him."
Varma has expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, which aims to uncover the timeline and extent of the alleged offences.
