Sanjay Raut Demands Amit Shah’s Resignation Amid National Outrage Over Pahalgam Terror Attack

Mumbai, April 23 : In the aftermath of the horrific terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left at least 28 tourists dead, political tensions have flared nationwide. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has called for the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the minister has failed in his primary duty of ensuring national security.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Raut launched a scathing attack on Shah, accusing him of focusing more on political maneuvering than on safeguarding citizens. In his strongly worded post, Raut alleged that the Home Minister spends "365 days strategizing how to eliminate political opponents" rather than addressing pressing security concerns.

“Resign! All the time is spent in forming and toppling governments. The brain is occupied 365 days a year in plotting against political rivals. The safety of citizens is left to divine will! Even Lord Ram is tired of these people. Resign and do the nation a favor,” Raut wrote in Hindi, tagging Shah’s official handle along with those of the BJP and the United Nations.

The remarks come a day after the most deadly attack on tourists in the Kashmir Valley since the beginning of insurgency in the 1990s. On Tuesday, terrorists opened fire in a scenic meadow near Pahalgam, a popular tourist spot in south Kashmir. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and backed by the ISI, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The ambush not only left 28 people dead but also injured several others, prompting nationwide outrage and renewed concerns over the Valley's security situation post-Article 370 abrogation. The incident has drawn comparisons with the 2000 Chittisinghpora massacre in which 36 Sikh villagers were killed just days before U.S. President Bill Clinton’s visit to India.

The Union government, meanwhile, has stepped up security measures across the region. Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar on Tuesday night and is currently overseeing a high-level review of the security situation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also returned from Saudi Arabia early to hold emergency consultations in Delhi.

While there has been no official response from Amit Shah or the BJP to Raut’s remarks, the comments have added fuel to the already volatile political climate. Opposition parties have begun sharpening their criticism of the government’s internal security record, while BJP leaders have condemned what they term as "politicizing a national tragedy."

As the country mourns the loss of innocent lives, the political discourse around accountability, security policy, and governance is likely to remain at the forefront in the days to come.
