Tragic Accident on Mumbai’s Coastal Road Claims Teen’s Life

Mumbai, India: A fatal car accident on Mumbai's Coastal Road claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman from Nashik, Gargi Chate, on February 8. The incident occurred when her friend, Sayam Sakala, 22, lost control of the vehicle near Haji Ali. The car collided with a divider and overturned multiple times. The accident took place around 8 pm, as the duo was heading to Churchgate. Despite being rushed to Breach Candy Hospital, Chate was declared dead due to a head injury, while Sakala is undergoing treatment.
The Tardeo police have registered an FIR against Sakala, who is suspected of speeding, and are awaiting blood test results to determine if alcohol was a factor. Sakala has been charged with causing death by negligence and rash driving. The tragic incident has left Chate's family in shock, as she was a first-year management student in Mumbai.
In another update, a new northbound bridge linking the Mumbai Coastal Road to the Worli-Bandra Sea Link was inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on January 26. The 827-meter-long bridge will significantly reduce travel time between Bandra and Nariman Point, saving 75% in travel time and 34% in fuel consumption.
