5.3 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Telangana, Tremors Felt in Hyderabad

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake struck Mulugu district in Telangana on Wednesday morning at 7:27 am, with tremors felt across Hyderabad and parts of Andhra Pradesh. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) confirmed that the quake occurred at a depth of 40 km, with its epicenter in Mulugu (Lat: 18.44 N, Long: 80.24 E).

The earthquake caused panic among residents, but there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Authorities are assessing the situation, urging people to stay alert and avoid unsafe structures.

While Telangana is typically classified in Seismic Zone II, a low-intensity zone, this event marks one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in the past two decades, according to experts.

Earlier, on November 30, a minor 2.9-magnitude earthquake jolted Assam’s Karbi Anglong region, while a 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Jammu and Kashmir on November 28, though no major damages were reported.
