Activist Demands Restoration of Original Kurla-Bandra Railway Alignment; Minister Orders Probe

Mumbai | June 20, 2025 : RTI activist Anil Galgali has demanded the immediate restoration of the original Kurla-Bandra railway alignment, which he claims was unjustly scrapped under the guise of the Mumbai Metro project. Galgali alleges that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) misled the public and manipulated the planning of key railway station sites to suit Metro expansion plans.

A high-level meeting chaired by Guardian Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar was held at the Mumbai Suburban Collector’s Office recently. Attendees included senior officials from MMRDA, BMC, the District Administration, Metro Project authorities, and Mumbai Traffic Police.

Minister Shelar acknowledged the issue, stating, “This is a clear case of deception. The original railway alignment was scrapped based on false information, misleading Mumbaikars.” He instructed that a detailed report be submitted to him and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
