BMC Launches Special Cleanliness Drive to Remove Unauthorized Hoardings and Clean Eastern & Western Expressways

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a special cleanliness drive for the Eastern and Western Expressways, removing unauthorized hoardings and carrying out extensive cleaning efforts along these busy highways. This initiative, announced by the BMC on social media, started on the night of March 18 at 10 PM and concluded early on March 19 at 6 AM. The BMC has stated that this drive will continue until March 22, 2025.

The BMC used various types of equipment to clean the roads during this operation, showcasing their commitment to maintaining a cleaner and safer environment for commuters. According to the BMC, the areas cleaned during the drive included the stretch from Ghatkopar to Vikhroli on the Eastern Expressway and the 90-foot road from Andheri to Kandivali on the Western Expressway.

During the overnight drive, several key activities were undertaken, including cleaning of the expressway, adjacent service roads, and surrounding areas. The BMC workers cleared garbage and debris, removed unauthorized hoardings and advertisement boards, and even painted tree trunks to beautify the roadsides. Additionally, the BMC arranged seating at bus stops and disposed of old, abandoned vehicles that were obstructing the roads.

The cleanliness campaign has received appreciation for its thoroughness, with the BMC stressing that such drives will continue periodically to keep Mumbai’s roads in top condition. In the upcoming days, the BMC plans to clean more stretches of the Eastern and Western Highways as part of this special initiative.

As part of their ongoing efforts, the BMC has also shared images of the cleanliness work conducted on March 18, highlighting the use of specialized vehicles and the extensive cleaning activities performed. The drive is part of a broader initiative by the municipal corporation to maintain better roads and ensure the city’s highways are free of illegal advertisements and obstructions.

The BMC has assured that similar campaigns will be carried out regularly, and residents and commuters can expect cleaner roads and safer highways across the city.
