New Delhi:Delhi's former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and current Chief Minister Atishi Marlena have challenged the summons issued by the trial court in a criminal defamation case related to allegations of 'removing the names of Agarwal voters.' They have contested the Delhi High Court's order from September 2, which upheld the summons issued by the trial court. The Supreme Court will hear this petition on September 27.
On January 28, 2020, the Rouse Avenue Court's Sessions Court dismissed a petition filed against the summons issued by the Metropolitan Magistrate against Arvind Kejriwal and four other leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party.
BJP leader Rajiv Babbar filed a criminal defamation suit against the four for their allegations regarding the 'removal of names of Agarwal voters' from the voter list in Delhi. On July 16, 2019, the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court granted bail to Kejriwal in this matter. Rajiv Babbar alleged that Kejriwal attempted to incite people against the BJP on social media. A criminal defamation petition was filed against Kejriwal's statements regarding the removal of names of Agarwal society members from the voter list. The petition also implicated Atishi Marlena, Manoj Kumar, and Sushil Kumar Gupta.
It is noteworthy that there have been accusations exchanged between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party leaders regarding the removal of names of Agarwal society members from the voter list. Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal, have targeted the BJP, asking why the BJP removed the names of 4 lakh out of 8 lakh Agarwal voters in Delhi. They have stated that due to the BJP's wrong policies, such as demonetization and GST, the businesses of traders have been affected, which is why Agarwal voters are not supporting the BJP this time.
