Crane-Truck Collision at Goregaon's Aarey Bridge Triggers Major Traffic Snarl on Western Express Highway

Mumbai, June 20: A major traffic disruption gripped Mumbai’s Western Express Highway (WEH) on Friday morning after a crane collided with a truck and overturned at the Aarey Bridge in Goregaon. The accident, which occurred during peak hours, led to a massive traffic jam on the southbound stretch, severely impacting office-goers and early commuters.

Visuals circulating on social media showed the crane toppled precariously over the barricade wall of the flyover, creating a hazardous situation for other vehicles on the road. The Mumbai Traffic Police and emergency response teams rushed to the spot and immediately launched recovery operations to remove the overturned crane and restore normal traffic flow.

According to reports by IANS, both the crane and truck drivers sustained injuries in the incident. While they received immediate medical attention, the extent of their injuries is yet to be officially confirmed.

The Mumbai Traffic Police issued an alert on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Traffic Movement Is Slow At Aarey Bridge (Dindoshi) South Bound Due To Accident.” Commuters were urged to use alternate routes while cleanup operations were underway.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary suspicions point towards possible overspeeding or mechanical failure. Meanwhile, efforts to remove the wreckage and clear the flyover continued into the afternoon, as traffic remained sluggish in the affected areas.

The incident highlights the growing concern over safety on Mumbai’s busy flyovers and the urgent need for stricter vehicular compliance and preventive maintenance to avoid such mishaps in the future.
