BMC Intensifies Anti-Pollution Drive: Fog Cannons and Inspections in Action

Mumbai: In a determined effort to tackle Mumbai’s worsening air quality, the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) has ramped up its dust control operations. Across the city’s 24 wards, truck-mounted fog mist cannon units now operate in two shifts, focusing on construction, demolition, and excavation hotspots. Over 100 tankers and e-sweeper units are actively deployed to maintain street and pavement cleanliness.

The civic body’s fleet includes 67 tankers with a 5,000-litre capacity and 39 with a 9,000-litre capacity, ensuring widespread coverage. Ward-level deputy engineers (environment) coordinate daily routes and conduct site inspections to enforce stringent pollution control measures.

Unannounced inspections on Thursday flagged 28 construction sites for violating guidelines. Show-cause notices are set to follow for continued non-compliance, as BMC cracks down on construction-related dust—a recognized contributor to poor air quality in the city.

With strict SOPs in place for dust mitigation, BMC’s intensified efforts reflect its commitment to curbing pollution and improving public health.
