MMRC Enhances Road Safety Near Dadar Metro Station With Yellow Box & Pedestrian Crossings

Mumbai, May 19: In a major step towards improving urban mobility and road safety, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has introduced yellow box markings and a clearly visible pedestrian crossing at Ram Ganesh Gadkari Chowk, near the Dadar Metro Station. This development is part of a wider initiative aimed at streamlining traffic flow and ensuring pedestrian safety along Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line.

The yellow box, painted at the busy intersection, is designed to reduce traffic congestion by preventing vehicles from blocking the junction. The pedestrian crossing, placed strategically near the metro station’s entry and exit gates, enhances visibility and prioritizes the safety of commuters walking to and from the station.

Dadar Metro Station is a key hub on Metro Line 3, which spans 33.5 kilometers, connecting Colaba in South Mumbai to SEEPZ in the north. The corridor comprises 27 underground stations and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and alleviate road congestion in Mumbai’s urban core.

“With the rising footfall at metro stations like Dadar, ensuring safe and efficient movement for both vehicles and pedestrians is essential,” an MMRC official stated. “Ram Ganesh Gadkari Chowk now sets a precedent for similar enhancements at other high-traffic junctions along the Aqua Line.”

Images shared on the MMRC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle showcased the newly implemented road safety features, drawing positive responses from commuters and urban planners alike. The visual cues, especially the yellow box and marked pedestrian lane, reflect MMRC’s proactive approach to managing the challenges of increased traffic around metro infrastructure.

Officials confirmed that similar upgrades are being rolled out across other major junctions along Metro Line 3, reinforcing the MMRC’s commitment to creating a safe, organized, and commuter-friendly urban transit environment.

As Mumbai continues to grow, such infrastructural interventions serve as essential components in the broader vision of a more connected and sustainable city.
