Banks to Remain Closed for Three Consecutive Days Until August 17 Across India

New Delhi | August 14, 2025 : Banks across India are set to remain closed for three consecutive days from August 15 to August 17, 2025, due to a combination of national and regional holidays, along with the regular weekend closure. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.

On August 15, the entire country will observe a public holiday on the occasion of India's 79th Independence Day. Alongside the national celebration, some states will also mark Janmashtami, commemorating the birth of Lord Krishna, and Parsi New Year (Shahenshahi), which is celebrated by the Parsi community.

Due to regional variations in the celebration of Janmashtami, several states will observe the holiday on August 16 (Saturday) instead. These include Mizoram (Aizawl), Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Jharkhand (Ranchi), Tamil Nadu (Chennai), Chandigarh, Sikkim (Gangtok), Uttarakhand (Dehradun), Telangana (Hyderabad), Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur and Lucknow), Rajasthan (Jaipur), Bihar (Patna), Meghalaya (Shillong), Chhattisgarh (Raipur), Jammu & Kashmir (Jammu and Srinagar), and Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada).

With August 17 (Sunday) being a regular weekly off, this results in a three-day banking shutdown in many cities across the country.

During these three days, physical bank branches will remain non-operational. Services such as cheque clearance, customer consultation, and NEFT/RTGS transfers will not be processed until banks reopen. However, online and mobile banking services, UPI transactions, and ATM withdrawals will continue to function as usual.

Customers who need to complete cash withdrawals, cheque deposits, fund transfers, or other in-person transactions are advised to do so before the end of the banking day on August 14 (Thursday) to avoid delays.

August 2025 features 15 total bank holidays, varying by state due to local festivals and observances. Customers should regularly check their regional bank holiday calendar to plan ahead, especially during the festive season.
