The Indian Navy successfully test-fired the K-4 ballistic missile from the newly-inducted nuclear submarine, INS Arighaat, on Wednesday. This missile, with a striking range of 3,500 km, bolsters India's second-strike capability, an essential component of its nuclear deterrence strategy.
The successful test marks a significant milestone in India’s defense capabilities, particularly in ensuring the reliability of its nuclear-powered submarines. INS Arighaat, which was inducted into service in August at the Vishakhapatnam-based Ship Building Centre, is one of two Indian Navy submarines capable of launching ballistic missiles. The Navy plans to conduct more tests to further validate and refine this system.
INS Arighaat joins the INS Arihant, India’s first nuclear submarine, in strengthening the country’s strategic deterrence. A third such submarine is expected to be inducted into service next year.
