Mumbai Cop Killed by Train While Crossing Tracks at Nalasopara Station, Was Running Late for Duty

Mumbai | August 14, 2025 : A 32-year-old police constable attached to the Samata Nagar police station in Kandivali tragically lost his life on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a train while crossing the tracks at Nalasopara station. The deceased, Ganesh Raul, was reportedly in a rush to report for duty and chose to skip the designated foot overbridge in an attempt to board his regular Churchgate-bound local train.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Kailash Barve, Raul had informed his seniors earlier in the day about reporting late for duty. However, realizing he was still running behind schedule, he attempted to cross the railway tracks directly from platform 4 instead of using the foot overbridge. At around 2:30 PM, a Virar-bound local train approached on an adjacent track and hit Raul, resulting in critical injuries.
The station master immediately alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP) and summoned an ambulance. Despite quick response efforts, Raul succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Senior Police Inspector Bhagwan Dange of Vasai GRP confirmed that an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered in the case. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of track-crossing and the critical importance of using foot overbridges, especially in Mumbai’s high-speed suburban rail network.
Constable Raul lived in Nalasopara with his wife and children. His sudden death has sent shockwaves across the local police department, with colleagues expressing grief over the loss of a committed officer.
Authorities have once again urged commuters to refrain from crossing railway tracks and to use designated pathways to avoid such preventable tragedies.
