Mumbai Lashed by Heavy Rains Since June 15, IMD Issues Alerts Across City and Suburbs
Waterlogging in Low-Lying Areas, Train Services Affected; BMC Helpline Active for Emergencies

Mumbai, June 16: Mumbai, popularly known as the 'City of Dreams', woke up to storm-like weather and relentless downpours this morning following heavy rainfall that began at midnight on June 15. The city and its suburban regions have been experiencing intense showers, accompanied by overcast skies and strong winds, bringing a much-needed break from the city’s usual humidity but also triggering widespread waterlogging and traffic delays.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), overcast conditions and continued rainfall are expected throughout the week. Several areas, including Sion, Dadar, Parel, Bandra, Vile Parle, and Andheri, reported water accumulation on roads and in low-lying zones, causing traffic snarls and minor flooding.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai and Thane, warning residents of heavy rain. An Orange Alert has also been declared for coastal districts like Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg, indicating the possibility of more intense weather in the coming days.
Public transportation has been impacted, with local train services reportedly delayed by 5–10 minutes. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Police have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain cautious in flood-prone areas.
Emergency contact numbers have been activated for public assistance. Citizens can contact the BMC’s central control room at 1916, or reach out to the Mumbai Police through 100, 112, or 103 in case of emergencies.
With more rain expected in the next 24 to 48 hours, authorities remain on high alert. Citizens are advised to monitor official updates and stay indoors wherever possible.
