Attention Mumbaikars! 18-Hour Water Cut in Mulund on August 21 for GMLR Pipeline Diversion Work

Mumbai, August 18, 2025: Residents of Mulund in Mumbai’s ‘T’ Ward will face an 18-hour water supply disruption later this week as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertakes major pipeline diversion work linked to the ongoing Goregaon–Mulund Link Road (GMLR) bridge project.
According to BMC officials, the water cut will begin at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 21, and continue until 4:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025. The shutdown is necessary for diverting a 1,200 mm diameter water pipeline that runs along the road between Marathon Maxima and Tansa Bridge in Mulund.
The GMLR project, aimed at improving east-west road connectivity, has impacted several underground utilities. The diversion of this large-diameter pipeline is part of critical infrastructure upgrades. During the 18-hour window, the civic body will carry out connection work at two key points of the pipeline, necessitating a full shutdown of water supply in several parts of the ward.
List of Affected Areas
Water supply will be completely unavailable in the following areas of Mulund (West):
-
Goregaon–Mulund Link Road
-
Lal Bahadur Shastri Road
-
Jawaharlal Nehru Road
-
Devidayal Road
-
Dumping Ground Road
-
Dr. R. P. Road
-
P. K. Road
-
Jhaver Road
-
Mahatma Gandhi Road
-
N. S. Road, S. N. Road, R. H. B. Road
-
Walji Ladha Road, V. P. Road, Madan Mohan Malviya Road
-
ACC Road, B. R. Road, Goshala Road
-
S. L. Road, Nahur Village and nearby localities
While these areas usually enjoy round-the-clock water supply, the BMC has advised residents to:
-
Store adequate water in advance
-
Use water judiciously during the cut
-
Boil and filter drinking water for at least 4–5 days after supply resumes, to avoid any contamination risks
Officials added that pressure fluctuations and water quality issues are common after major pipeline reconnections, hence the precautionary guidance.
Civic engineers are confident of completing the pipeline diversion and restoring normal supply by 4:00 AM on August 22. The GMLR bridge project has required the shifting of several utilities, with water pipelines being among the most affected, underlining the complexity of urban infrastructure upgrades in Mumbai.
