Airline Employee Held at Mumbai Airport in Connection with Assault Allegation

Mumbai, July 21 – A male employee of a London-based airline was detained at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport while attempting to leave the country, following a complaint filed by a 23-year-old female colleague. Both individuals are employed by the same airline, and the incident reportedly occurred after a social gathering at the accused’s Mira Road residence.

According to officials, the two had recently returned from a long-haul flight and attended a gathering where the complainant alleges she was made to consume alcohol beyond her limit. The incident took place at the accused’s residence following the party.

Police reports indicate that the woman later experienced psychological distress and was warned against disclosing the matter. Despite the difficulties, she continued her work duties and traveled abroad for an assignment. After returning to Mumbai, she approached Navghar Police Station and registered a formal complaint.

The accused was subsequently booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, including:

  • Section 64 – Relating to serious offences against individuals

  • Section 351(1) – Criminal intimidation

  • Section 352 – Insult with intent to provoke breach of peace

Upon learning of the complaint, the accused prepared to leave the country, having secured a position with an airline based in Hong Kong. The Navghar police, with assistance from the airport vigilance unit and Sahar police, acted promptly to detain him at the airport before his departure.

Senior Police Inspector Dheeraj Koli confirmed the developments, stating that Sub-Inspector Sanjay Lokhandemali is leading the investigation. “We responded quickly to the information received and ensured necessary action was taken,” said Koli.

Authorities have assured that a thorough and sensitive investigation is underway, and the complainant is being extended all necessary support and protection.
