Cyclonic Storm 'Dana' Hits West Bengal and Odisha: Heavy Rainfall and High Winds Reported

Kolkata: After the landfall of cyclonic storm 'Dana', heavy rainfall has occurred in the coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha. The landfall of this storm began at 11:12 PM on Thursday and is continuing into Friday morning. The storm made landfall between Dharmara and Bhitarakanika in Odisha. Wind speeds during the cyclone were recorded at 100 to 120 kilometers per hour, and it is expected to weaken around 10:00 AM today.
According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, the districts of East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas in West Bengal are experiencing strong winds and heavy rain. Kolkata has not been significantly affected until Thursday night, with only light rain reported. However, conditions remain severe in East Midnapore and nearby coastal areas. Due to the storm, tourist spots like Digha and Mandarmani have been evacuated, and residents have been moved to safe locations. The department had previously issued a warning that sea waves of 9 to 14 feet could rise in the coastal areas of West Bengal.
Heavy rainfall is also being reported in Howrah, Hooghly, and North 24 Parganas due to cyclonic storm 'Dana'. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, and West Midnapore for today and tomorrow. Additionally, a warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Jhargram district as well. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been monitoring the situation from the secretariat throughout the night.
