Deadly Israeli Raids in Occupied West Bank as Gaza War Rages

West Bank – In a dramatic escalation of violence, Israel has initiated its most extensive military operation in the occupied West Bank in more than 20 years. The offensive, described by the Israeli military as “counterterrorism” operations, has simultaneously targeted four northern areas: Jenin, Nablus, Tubas, and Tulkarem.
The Israeli military reports that at least 18 individuals have been killed since the beginning of the raids, with five of these casualties being identified as Palestinian fighters. The operation has seen armored columns enter refugee camps in Tulkarem, Tubas, and Jenin, intensifying the already dire situation on the ground.
The United Nations has voiced significant concerns over the impact of these raids. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, highlighted that the operations have taken place “in close proximity to four hospitals,” with some facilities reportedly surrounded, severely restricting medical personnel’s ability to operate.
In response, Guterres has called for an immediate halt to the Israeli military activities. The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Al-Haq, and Al Mezan Center for Human Rights have issued a joint statement condemning the violence and drawing parallels between the tactics used in the West Bank and those observed in Gaza. They urge the international community to take urgent action in accordance with international law to address the escalating violence.
As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains on high alert, with increasing calls for intervention and accountability.
