Delhi Liquor Scam: BRS leader Kavitha granted bail by Supreme Court

New Delhi:The Supreme Court has granted bail to Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leader K. Kavitha, accused in the Delhi Liquor Scam case, in the ED and CBI cases. A bench headed by Justice BR Gavai ordered her release on bail.

During the hearing, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for K. Kavitha, had said that the petitioner has been in custody for the last five months. He said that chargesheets have been filed in both ED and CBI cases. There are 493 witnesses in the case. Rohatgi had sought bail for K. Kavitha on the basis of bail granted to Manish Sisodia, Prabir Purkayastha and Kejriwal. He had said that K. Kavitha is a woman. When the court issued notice to ED and CBI, Rohatgi sought interim bail. Then the court said that it cannot give any order without hearing the side of the ED and CBI.

It is noteworthy that on 22 July, Rouse Avenue Court took cognizance of the charge sheet filed by CBI against K. Kavitha. Kavitha was arrested by CBI on 11 April. The CBI filed a charge sheet against K. Kavitha on 7 June. The court took cognizance on 29 May on the charge sheet filed by ED against K. Kavitha.

ED arrested Kavitha on 15 March from Hyderabad. According to ED, 33 percent profit through Indospirits reached Kavitha. According to ED, Kavitha was associated with the liquor traders' lobby South Group. The ED sent two summons to Kavitha for questioning but Kavitha ignored it and did not appear, after which she was arrested after raids.
