BJP's 12-hour Bengal bandh begins against Mamata government's repression

New Delhi:The 12-hour Bengal bandh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began at 6 am today. This bandh has been called in protest against the police action against those who participated in the student society's march to the state secretariat Navanna yesterday (Tuesday). The call for a 12-hour bandh was announced by West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar.

Soon after this, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's chief advisor Alapan Bandyopadhyay had said that the state government would not allow any bandh on Wednesday.

It is worth mentioning that the police lathicharged and fired tear gas shells and used water cannon to disperse the crowd moving towards Navanna. The protesters were demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in protest against the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital earlier this month.

JP Nadda said, brutality will not be tolerated: BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda has strongly condemned the police brutality in Kolkata. He said that the cycle of oppression will not be tolerated. Nadda has written on Twitter, "The orgy of violence and oppressive cycles witnessed on the streets of West Bengal by Mamata Banerjee's government and her brutal police on the doctors, youth and women of Bengal who were demanding justice, is not only condemnable, but also shameful for humanity." Nadda has said, "In Bengal, all limits of cruelty are crossed with a daughter, the identity of the woman is torn to pieces, the parents of the daughter are misled, but Mamata Banerjee is silent. When the youth power of the country tried to raise voice against this injustice, then Mamata Banerjee realized her being the Chief Minister and she crossed the limits of cruelty to save the culprits... I ask what was the demand of the student community? That action should be taken against the culprits of the heinous crime committed in RG Kar Hospital, the daughter of Bengal should get justice.''

BJP President Nadda has written, ''Mamata Banerjee, despite being a woman Chief Minister, has completely failed to ensure the safety of the daughters of Bengal. In Bengal, Mamata Banerjee has crossed all limits of ruthlessness and dictatorship... The dictatorial attitude of the dictator Chief Minister of Bengal is being seen. Why are you trying to save these culprits? Keeping in mind the sentiments of the common citizens, the BJP has called for a Bengal bandh for the next 12 hours from 6 am tomorrow (Wednesday). I am fully confident that the people of Bengal will stand with us.''
