Explosive Blaze at Navi Mumbai Construction Site Raises Safety Concerns

Vashi, Navi Mumbai: A massive fire erupted on Wednesday night near Vashi's Arenja Corner, where CIDCO is constructing affordable housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The incident, reported around 9:20 PM, occurred at a workers' colony on the site, triggering multiple explosions from small LPG cooking gas cylinders.
Despite the alarming blasts, fire officials confirmed there were no casualties as all 100 workers were evacuated promptly. Purushottam Jadhav, divisional officer at the Vashi fire station, revealed that the fire was likely caused by a cylinder explosion, which rapidly engulfed the temporary camp used by laborers for cooking and living.
This incident has sparked concerns over compliance with safety norms at the site. A local activist questioned whether adequate precautions were in place for the workers' safety, particularly given their living conditions.
Further investigation is expected to determine the cause of the fire and address potential safety lapses.
