Heavy Inflow Triggers Release of 1,000 Cusecs from Chembarambakkam Reservoir

Chennai: The Water Resources Department (WRD) began releasing 1,000 cusecs of water from the Chembarambakkam reservoir on Friday morning after the water level reached 23.29 feet. This release follows a surge in inflow due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas.

In addition, the water discharge from Poondi reservoir has increased to 12,000 cusecs as inflow surged to 9,890 cusecs. The WRD has also started releasing 500 cusecs of water from the Red Hills Lake. Due to the continuing rise in water levels, the department has issued a flood warning for low-lying areas, urging residents in Kundrathur, Thiruneermalai, and Tirumudivakkam to take precautions.

As rainfall continues in the catchment areas, further water releases are expected to prevent flooding.
