Mumbai : Veteran Indian pacer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar has revealed a heartwarming story behind his early allegiance in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Appearing recently on The Ranveer Show podcast, the 34-year-old swing specialist spoke about his admiration for Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, which influenced his support for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the inaugural IPL season in 2008.

“In 2008, I supported KKR because of Shah Rukh Khan,” Bhuvneshwar said during the candid conversation. “He is so humble and talks like a best friend. That left a mark on me.”

Bhuvneshwar, known for his calm demeanor and skillful bowling, also shared a list of his favorite SRK films, which include Ram Jaane, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Koyla, and Duplicate — showcasing his long-standing admiration for the actor both on and off the field.

Reminiscing about his early days in cricket, Bhuvneshwar recalled what he bought with his first IPL paycheck. “I bought a Swift car… I don’t remember if it was before or after the IPL contract,” he said, adding, “I never had the desire for anything flashy.”

Bhuvneshwar, who was acquired by RCB for ₹10.75 crore in the latest IPL auction after a long stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been quietly delivering impactful performances this season. So far, he has taken six wickets in five matches at a commendable economy rate of 7.84.

RCB currently sit third on the IPL 2025 points table with four wins from six matches, and Bhuvneshwar is expected to play a pivotal role in their next encounter against Punjab Kings on April 18 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
