Kejriwal's Allegations of Poisoned Yamuna Waters Spark EC's Tough Response: FIR Possible

New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's explosive claim that the Haryana government deliberately poisoned the Yamuna waters to harm Delhi’s residents has ignited a fierce confrontation with the Election Commission (EC). The poll panel, in a stern notice, has given Kejriwal until Friday, 11 am to provide concrete evidence to back his allegations.

The EC’s letter condemned Kejriwal’s statement as “promoting disharmony” and warned that the words used could incite unrest between the residents of Haryana and Delhi. The Commission highlighted that the former CM’s remarks during a critical election period could endanger public peace and harmony.

Despite the growing pressure, Kejriwal remained defiant, accusing Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar of political bias and threatening that history would remember the EC's actions. He even suggested Kumar should contest elections if he wanted to engage in politics.

If Kejriwal fails to substantiate his claims, the EC could initiate criminal proceedings, including filing an FIR. The charges could include promoting enmity between groups, spreading false statements, and public mischief under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, with potential prison sentences.

The EC also noted that Kejriwal's vague response to its queries regarding the alleged poisoning raised further concerns. The poll panel is continuing to investigate the matter, with input from the Delhi and Punjab chief ministers.

As the drama unfolds, Kejriwal's controversial allegations have triggered a critical legal and political battle with wide-reaching consequences.
