Maharashtra COVID-19 Update: State Records 12 New Cases, Active Count Crosses 600; No New Deaths Reported
India's Total Active Cases Reach 6,491; Health Ministry Conducts Hospital Preparedness Drills

Mumbai, June 9: Maharashtra has reported 12 new COVID-19 cases, pushing its active case tally beyond the 600 mark, as per the latest data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. While the number of cases shows a slight uptick, no new COVID-related deaths were recorded in the state or nationwide in the past 24 hours.
As of 8 am on June 9, 2025, India has a total of 6,491 active COVID-19 cases, with 358 new infections reported within a 24-hour span. The number reflects a gradual rise in infections, though the country continues to report zero fatalities for the day.
Kerala continues to lead among states with 1,957 active cases, having added 7 new cases. Delhi followed with 42 fresh cases, bringing its active total to 728. Maharashtra remains among the top three states with high active caseloads and 18 total deaths reported since January 2025, the highest among all states.
On a positive note, 624 patients recovered across the country in the past 24 hours, taking the cumulative recovery figure since January to 6,861. The overall death toll for 2025 remains at 65, with Kerala (15) and Delhi (7) following Maharashtra in fatalities.
The central government has intensified hospital preparedness efforts across India. Mock drills are being conducted in public and private healthcare facilities to assess readiness in case of a surge. These drills are focused on the availability of oxygen supplies, ventilators, ICU beds, and essential medications.
