Maharashtra Eyes AI Revolution in Farming to Boost Yields & Cut Costs

Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Maharashtra government is set to explore artificial intelligence (AI) in agriculture to enhance farm productivity and reduce costs for farmers. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed the Agriculture and Cooperation Departments to evaluate the technical and financial feasibility of this initiative.

A high-level review meeting was held at Pawar’s office, attended by Agriculture Minister Adv. Manikrao Kokate, Minister of State for Agriculture Adv. Ashish Jaiswal (via video conferencing), Minister of State for Cooperation Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, and experts from agricultural research institutions. Representatives from the All India Grape Vinegar Plantation Association were also present.

Pawar emphasized AI’s role in tackling unpredictable weather, untimely rains, crop diseases, and labor shortages. Proposed applications include crop health monitoring, soil analysis, weed detection, pest and disease identification, and real-time farm data analysis. The initiative aims to boost yields, cut input costs, minimize pesticide use, and enhance supply chain efficiency.

The Maharashtra government is keen on leveraging AI for transformative changes in the agricultural sector, ensuring better farm management and decision-making. A feasibility study will be conducted to assess AI adoption, ensuring it benefits farmers practically and efficiently.
