Mukesh Ambani Praises Mark Zuckerberg for Making Llama Open Source, Highlights India's AI Future

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has lauded Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg for his significant contribution to the field of artificial intelligence. Speaking during a conversation with Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang at the Nvidia AI Summit 2024 in Mumbai on October 24, Ambani praised Zuckerberg for making Meta's Llama language model open source.
“I have great respect for my friend Mark Zuckerberg. He has made Llama open source, and he will go down in history for doing this,” Ambani remarked. Llama, a family of autoregressive large language models released by Meta in February 2023, has been hailed for its impact on advancing AI research and accessibility.
During the same event, Jensen Huang emphasized Nvidia's growing commitment to India, announcing a strategic partnership with Reliance Industries to build AI infrastructure in the country. “India has a large population of computer engineers, and this is an extraordinary time. I am honoured and privileged to partner with you for this,” Huang told Ambani.
Huang also outlined Nvidia's ambitious plans for India, predicting a 20-fold increase in compute capacities in the country by 2024. He noted the vital role India plays in the global IT ecosystem, describing it as central to the tech industry worldwide. “India is very, very dear to the world’s computer industry. Nvidia’s ecosystem in India is very rich, and the country will see enormous growth in AI capabilities,” Huang added.
This partnership aligns with India's burgeoning tech sector, leveraging its talent and resources to position the nation as a global leader in AI advancements. The collaboration between Nvidia and Reliance underscores the significance of India in the global AI race, as it continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies and infrastructure.
