Mulund's Sambhaji Raje Maidan Turns 'Fear Zone': Locals Raise Alarm Over Drunkards and Drugs

Sambhaji Raje Maharaj Maidan, Mulund East: Residents near Sambhaji Raje Maharaj Maidan in Mulund East have raised safety concerns as drunkards and drug users turn the public garden into their regular hangout spot. For over two years, locals have been reporting these activities but claim little action has been taken by authorities.

According to Vinod Gaikwad, founder of the Ojaswi Foundation, broken glass and filthy common toilets have discouraged walkers and children from visiting the area. The situation has worsened, with late-night parties leaving the garden littered with liquor bottles and trash.

Rajesh Sonkar, a jogger, lamented the lack of consistent action by the police, despite repeated complaints. A local woman echoed the sentiment, expressing fears of using the space alone or with children.

MNS leader Rajesh Chavan warned of a public morcha if the issue persists, citing years of negligence by authorities despite numerous complaints.

DCP Vijaykant Sagar acknowledged the problem and assured that police patrolling in the area has been increased. “Action will be taken against those found guilty,” he said.

The garden, once a peaceful community space, is now at the center of residents’ concerns, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement and safety measures.
