Mumbai Division of Central Railway Achieves Record Freight Loading in April–July 2025 Period

Mumbai, August 2, 2025 – Central Railway’s Mumbai Division has registered a historic achievement in freight loading, recording 7.43 million tonnes from April to July 2025, the highest in the last 15 years for the same period. This marks a 1.5% increase compared to 7.32 million tonnes during the same period in FY 2024-25.
The month of July 2025 alone saw an impressive freight loading of 2.04 million tonnes, an 8.5% growth over 1.88 million tonnes in July 2024. This is the highest monthly loading for July in the past 15 years and the first time this financial year that monthly loading has crossed 2 million tonnes.
In container loading, multiple records were broken. JNPT alone recorded 647 rakes, the highest ever, surpassing the previous best of 641 rakes in January 2025. The Mumbai Division overall loaded 769 container rakes (647 port, 122 domestic), breaking the earlier record of 754 rakes in January 2025. Also, 1048 container wagons were loaded per day in July 2025, and 1285 wagons were loaded in a single day on 28 July 2025, both being record highs.
Wagon loading averaged 1614 wagons per day, a 15% jump from July 2024. Coal loading saw 68 rakes, 41% more than the 48 rakes in July 2024. Fertilizer movement from Kalamboli also hit a monthly high with 32 rakes, bringing the total to 288 fertilizer rakes loaded till July 2025.
In terms of rake operations, 1145 rakes were loaded and 1104 rakes unloaded in July 2025 — an increase of over 12% and 21%, respectively, compared to July 2024. For the April–July period, 4100 rakes were loaded and 4200 rakes unloaded, showing steady year-on-year growth.
Freight train interchange also improved significantly, averaging 110.6 trains per day in July 2025 against 101.6 last year. The best interchange with Vasai Road (Western Railway) stood at 57.2 trains, exceeding the previous record of 56.8 in June 2025.
