Mumbai Experiences Hottest December Day Since 2008

Mumbai: Mumbai witnessed an unprecedented spike in temperatures on Wednesday, with the mercury soaring to 37.3°C, making it the hottest December day since 2008. This temperature, nearly 4°C above the seasonal average, was recorded at the Santacruz observatory. Colaba reported a slightly cooler 35°C. The unexpected heatwave follows the city’s coldest November day in eight years, when temperatures had dipped to 16°C.
Meteorologists attribute the unusual warmth to strong easterly winds and moisture from Cyclone Fengal, which delayed the sea breeze and led to the temperature surge. Additionally, light drizzle in the early morning hours and high nighttime temperatures of 25.5°C have added to the atypical conditions. The air quality index (AQI) also recorded a moderate level of 139.
Experts predict the warm conditions will persist for the next 3-4 days, with winter-like weather expected to return after December 7.
