Mumbai : Fire Breaks Out in Poonam Chambers, Worli; Doused After Four Hours of Efforts

A massive fire broke out at Poonam Chambers, located opposite Atria Mall on Annie Besant Road in Worli, Mumbai, on Sunday morning. The blaze, which reportedly started on the second floor of the commercial building, was extinguished after four hours of intense firefighting operations.
The fire was first reported at 11:39 AM, prompting a swift response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) and other emergency services. MFB declared the fire a Level-II blaze at 11:51 AM, indicating a severe situation that required additional resources.
Eight fire engines and seven water tankers were deployed to the scene, with multiple agencies, including MFB, local police, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), 108 Ambulance services, and local ward staff, working together to contain the flames. By 2:04 PM, firefighters had successfully controlled the fire, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.
Thick black smoke was seen rising from the site, but the flames were largely under control by the time rescue operations wound down. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, though the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and local legislator Aaditya Thackeray visited the site earlier in the day. Speaking to ANI, Thackeray said, "Fire tenders are going inside, and cooling operations will soon begin."
The building, a basement-plus-ground-plus-seven-storey structure, suffered significant damage in the blaze, but the quick response by fire teams prevented further casualties.
