Rajasthan Minister Praises PM Modi's Historic Speech, Endorses ‘One Nation, One Election’

Rajasthan Minister Jogaram Patel on Sunday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Parliament, calling it "historic." Speaking to ANI, Patel said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech was historic and will be remembered forever. The Indian National Congress (INC) and its members, along with their leader, have repeatedly mocked the Constitution. The language used by their leader is unconstitutional."
Patel’s comments came after PM Modi’s strong criticism of Congress during his reply to a two-day debate on the Constitution in Parliament. In his speech, PM Modi accused Congress of continually disrespecting the Constitution and presented 11 pledges for India’s future. He stressed that both the government and citizens must fulfill their duties, and that Indian politics must be free of "parivarvad" (dynastic politics). Modi also targeted the Nehru-Gandhi family, accusing its leaders of undermining the Constitution across generations.
In addition, Patel voiced his support for the 'One Nation, One Election' initiative, calling it crucial for Indian democracy. He said, "This is the need of the hour. Frequent elections create animosity and law and order problems. Holding elections once will allow the government to work fully for five years. Under the leadership of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, we are also moving towards 'One State, One Election'."
The 'One Nation, One Election' bill was approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday, paving the way for its introduction in Parliament. However, the proposal has sparked debate between the ruling and opposition parties. The opposition, particularly the INDIA alliance, believes the policy could undermine India’s federal structure. On the other hand, parties within the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) support the bill, arguing that it would streamline the electoral process, save time, and improve governance efficiency.
The 'One Nation, One Election' proposal, which aims to synchronize elections for Lok Sabha, State Assemblies, urban bodies, and panchayats within a 100-day period, was approved by the Union Cabinet in September this year. The proposal follows recommendations from a high-level panel chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind.
