Mumbai Gang Used GST Data to Steal Luxury Cars Like BMW

Mumbai, India: In a shocking scam, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested seven individuals for using GST numbers of people with high CIBIL scores to fraudulently secure loans and steal luxury cars like BMW and Fortuner. The gang reportedly stole over 35 high-end vehicles in the past three years, altering their engine and chassis numbers before selling them in neighboring states.
According to DCP Datta Nalawade, the accused obtained PAN and Aadhaar details of unsuspecting individuals and created fake documents using their own photographs. They even rented rooms for bank verification, ensuring the approval of car loans. During the crackdown, 16 stolen cars worth ₹7.3 crore were recovered.
The scam was exposed while investigating the theft of a Mahindra Thar in Vikhroli last year. Authorities revealed that four of the seven arrested men have prior criminal records. Investigations are ongoing to track other stolen vehicles.
