Thane Jewelry Heist: 5 Arrested for Stealing Gold Worth ₹5 Crore After Breaking into Shop

Thane, Mumbai: A daring jewelry heist in Thane has led to the arrest of five individuals, who stole gold ornaments worth nearly ₹5.8 crore. The burglary took place at the Waman Shankar Marathe jewelry shop in Thane during the early hours of Tuesday, between 2 AM and 5 AM.
According to the Thane Crime Branch, five suspects from Surat were arrested following an extensive search across both Thane and Surat. The burglars managed to break into the shop by damaging its shutter and fled with 5.6 kg of gold. The theft was discovered when the shop's owner, Ajit Waman Marathe, was alerted by locals and arrived at the scene to find the ornaments missing.
A thorough investigation ensued with the help of CCTV footage, which revealed two burglars entering the shop and stealing the gold. Police noted that the culprits had likely spent days surveying the area before committing the crime. Inspector Mangesh Bhange from the Naupada police station confirmed the arrest of the suspects and said that the photos of the accused were circulated among nearby police stations, leading to their capture.
A case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered, and further investigations are ongoing.
