Airoli Katai Naka Road Project: Phase 3 Work to Begin Soon; Phases 1 and 2 to Open by October Next Year

The Airoli Katai Naka Road Project, a crucial infrastructure development for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, is progressing steadily with the start of Phase 3 construction expected soon. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded the contract for the elevated road from National Highway (NH-4) to Katai Naka. Preliminary work, including surveys and geotechnical investigations, will commence shortly. The Phase 3 project is expected to be completed in 48 months, with a contract cost of Rs 1981.17 crore.

Meanwhile, Phase 1 and Phase 2 are nearing completion. Phase 1, which includes the construction of an elevated and twin-tunnel road from Thane Belapur Road to NH-4, is 90% complete. Phase 2, covering the elevated portion from Airoli Bridge to Thane Belapur Road, is 75% complete. Both phases are expected to open for traffic by October next year.

The Airoli Katai Naka Road Project, part of the Extended Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP), will enhance connectivity between key areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The entire 12.3 km project, connecting Airoli to Katai Naka, aims to reduce travel time by 45 minutes to one hour, decongesting important junctions like Thane Belapur Road, Mahape Road, and Shilphata.
Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, commissioner of MMRDA, highlighted that the project aligns with the vision of improving urban livability and sustainability, offering a significant boost to traffic flow and reducing fuel consumption.
