Mumbai's Main Line to Get 14 New AC Services Starting April 16 – A Sigh of Relief for Summer Heat!

Mumbai, Maharashtra: To combat the rising summer heat, Central Railway (CR) will introduce 14 new air-conditioned (AC) suburban train services on Mumbai’s Main Line from April 16. These services will replace existing non-AC trains, ensuring the total number of suburban services remains at 1,810.

Among the 14 new AC services, two will run during peak hours—one from Kalyan to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in the morning and another from CSMT to Thane in the evening.

The decision comes in response to the sharp rise in AC local train ridership, which surged from 2.09 crore commuters in 2023 to 2.84 crore in 2024. With the summer temperatures soaring, commuters have shown increasing preference for cooler, more comfortable travel.

This move aims to address growing demand without altering the daily schedule, as the 14 new AC services will replace non-AC services to enhance commuter comfort.

Railway officials are currently working on logistics for the smooth integration of these services into the existing schedule.
