Mumbai Police Busts Fake Adoption Racket, NRI Doctor Falls Victim to Cyber Fraud

Mumbai, India: Mumbai Police has uncovered a shocking illegal adoption case involving an HIV-positive newborn, booking two women for fraudulently misleading KEM Hospital in Parel. The case came to light when the baby, suffering from health complications, underwent appendix surgery at Wadia Hospital, exposing the illegal adoption.

Initially registered at Manpada Police Station in Thane, the case has now been transferred to Bhoiwada Police Station for further investigation. The main accused, still at large, had financial difficulties and initially sought an abortion. However, she later gave the baby away to another woman, who agreed to adopt the child unlawfully.

NRI Doctor Duped of ₹9.7 Lakh in Online Bank Fraud

In another incident, a US-based NRI heart surgeon became a victim of cyber fraud, losing over ₹9.7 lakh from his Indian bank account in Mumbai. Dr. Ali Khalid Hussain, 65, had transferred all his savings to an account in Andheri, only to later receive messages about unauthorized withdrawals.

Despite reaching out to the bank, he did not receive a satisfactory response and immediately transferred the remaining funds back to his US account. Upon his return to India on February 19, he lodged a formal complaint with the Bandra Cyber Cell on February 25, leading to an official fraud case at Oshiwara Police Station.

Authorities have registered cases under the BNS and IT Act, and investigations are ongoing in both cases.
