Navi Mumbai International Airport to Build Dedicated VVIP Terminal for Celebrities, Billionaires, and Politicians

Navi Mumbai, 2025: The much-anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is all set to create a dedicated terminal exclusively for VVIPs, including movie stars, billionaire business tycoons, and high-ranking politicians. This terminal will be part of the airport's future expansion plans and is scheduled for construction to begin in Fiscal Year 2026, with a projected completion date set for 2030.
The VVIP terminal will serve not only central and state government officials, such as governors, chief ministers, and defense personnel but also provide a high-end general aviation terminal for celebrities and other prominent figures. While specific eligibility criteria for the terminal's usage will be finalized later, the terminal is expected to have selective access, allowing only the most privileged individuals to use it.
In addition to catering to government officials, the terminal will also serve the families of the airport’s promoters, signaling its significance in accommodating private and exclusive travel needs. This new development highlights broader trends in airport infrastructure that prioritize exclusivity and luxury services for high-profile individuals.
Currently, Mumbai’s existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport does not have a dedicated VVIP terminal, making the planned VVIP terminal at NMIA a major development. NMIA is managed by a joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO), with operations expected to begin commercially after May 15.
The introduction of a VVIP terminal at NMIA will be a strategic enhancement aimed at attracting high-income travelers, ensuring a personalized and seamless travel experience for the elites. According to a recent assessment by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), NMIA is already 90% complete. The operator has also applied for mandatory clearances, signaling significant progress in the project. NMIA aims to ease congestion at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), which currently operates with a single runway.
The first phase of NMIA’s expansion includes a terminal capable of handling 20 million passengers per year, with a split of 9 million domestic and 3 million international passengers. The second phase, expected to be operational by the end of 2028, will increase the capacity to 30 million passengers. Additionally, a VIP terminal and a permanent air traffic control tower are planned for the third phase of the development.
