Deadly Blaze in Andheri: Illegal Digging Sparks Tragedy

Mumbai, India: A devastating fire caused by unauthorized excavation in Sher-e-Punjab Society, Andheri East, has left one dead and three injured, raising serious questions about accountability. The blaze erupted early Sunday when a Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) pipeline was ruptured by a JCB, allegedly used for illegal digging.
Aman Saroj (22), who sustained severe burns, succumbed to his injuries at National Burns Centre, Airoli, while his friend Arvind Kumar Kaithal (21) remains in critical condition. Auto driver Suresh Gupta (52), who suffered burns and lost his rickshaw in the fire, is undergoing treatment at Trauma Care Hospital, Jogeshwari.
MLA Murji Patel has questioned how unauthorized digging could take place without BMC’s approval. “Where was the security? The BMC and the contractor must be held accountable,” he stated. Civic officials revealed that official roadwork had stopped at 7 pm Saturday, but an unauthorized individual continued excavation at midnight, leading to the explosion. The police have arrested the person responsible.
The tragedy has sparked demands for compensation for the victims and a thorough investigation to prevent such disasters in the future.
