Mumbai Rains Bring Relief and Chaos: Yellow Alert Issued, Train Delays and Traffic Disruptions Reported

Mumbai | June 19, 2025: Mumbai woke up to heavy showers on Thursday following a night of relentless rainfall, leading to traffic congestion, minor train delays, and water accumulation in several areas of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, urging residents to remain cautious as more rain is expected throughout the day.
Neighborhoods such as Kurla, Lalbaug, Byculla, CSMT, and Nariman Point witnessed consistent downpours accompanied by gusty winds. While no severe waterlogging incidents were reported, slow-moving traffic was observed in several key areas, adding to commuter woes.
According to the IMD, Mumbai will experience a generally cloudy sky with moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places, prompting warnings of possible localised flooding and disruption in daily activities. Citizens have been advised to plan their travel in advance and stay alert to weather updates.
On the transportation front, Mumbai's suburban railway services on the Central and Harbour lines faced minor delays of 10–15 minutes, as reported by the m-Indicator app. However, no official statement has been issued by Central Railway. Western Railway services continued to operate on schedule at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, traffic congestion was reported at Milind Nagar JVLR Road (MIDC) due to an accident involving a truck and a tempo, leading to a significant slowdown on the southbound stretch. The Mumbai Traffic Police issued alerts for commuters to expect delays and consider alternate routes.
Weather experts noted a slight dip in maximum temperature, expected to hover around 31°C, offering some respite from the persistent humidity the city has faced in recent days.
In its extended forecast, the IMD predicted continued moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few hours. In neighboring districts such as Raigad and Ratnagiri, an orange alert has been issued, indicating the potential for very heavy rainfall, especially in parts of the Konkan region.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and citizens are urged to follow official advisories to ensure safety and minimize inconvenience during the ongoing monsoon activity.
